Brief 06 | Photography Collab - Foiling (Zeinab)

When foiling Zeinabs cards for the final postcards the outcome was not what was expected. The mockups of foiling turned out much better than the actual ones which was a shame.

The process was right. Firstly trimming down the foil to fit the area that is in need of foiling. Also from learning from the mock ups the foil rolled when heated so I cut extra foil to avoid this from happening so close to the text.

When the heat press was applied to the foil and postcards the inks in the image also began to heat up and then caused them to stick to the bottom of the tracing paper, so when removing the postcard from the heat press it had to be peeled off leaving a transfer of the image like the one above.
This cause the image of the postcards to become quite distorted and ruined them.

Also the foil didn't stick well to the edges of the type, making it look messy and unprofessional.

Both me and Zeinab were disappointed with the results especially when the mock ups worked really well. We decided not to go ahead with the foiling, as it began to ruin the images and this was a main point of focus across the promotion.
