Brief 06 | Photography Collab - Experiment & Development (Melvin)

Melvins business card uses a embossed design on the front which is his logo. To emboss a laser cutter booking had to be made -
Using the laser cutter makes the areas of emboss sharp and will create a smart and pristine look. This was a very quick process and took only 10 minutes to do.
White mount board was used. Using a thick white mount bard ensures it not to tear or break when going through the embosser, the thickness also allows you to see how raised the surface of the emboss will be.

Printing -

The cards were printed on a GF smith light grey colour plan in a 220gsm. Using the light grey stock ensured that the dark grey text could be seen on the card.

Embossing -

Embossing the cards is a quick process however it can be tricky to align the cards to the laser cut mount board. To get one that was accurate it took 4 attempts. Tape was placed on the mount board and used as a outline where to place the card, this became time consuming.

Feedback -

"Hmm it's not quite how I imagine would be :/ I think the black card with white text makes it look better, but cant be printed in the print room. Maybe we can try the foil design? (sorry for making you run to the print room twice)"

Because Melvin doesn't like this design Ive offered to do the other design that he now prefers, Melvin printed the cards off from the digital printers and I will be foiling them.

Design 02 -

Foiling process -

Melvin specifically asked for a silver foil for his business cards, and only wanted one side foiling.

'oil stamping, (also known as foil application) typically a commercial printingprocess, is the application of metallic or pigmented foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto foil, making it permanently adhere to the surface below leaving the design of the dye.'

the foiling for melvin card worked well, however because the foiled rolled after the heat press some of the foil then didn't stick.
